Puppies – Tuesday Feb.23’10

Today Feb. 23 was a BEAUTIFUL day!!! The weather was mild compared to our winter so far! A glimpse and a renewed hope for Spring soon to be here. We need these days. The ground was still very wet and the branch that feeds the pond was running fast. The leaves are off all the trees and the woods are brown and have that wonderful woods smell. I can not describe it but I love the smell! I love to see the bare trees shapes against the blue sky. so like sculptures that stand up out of the earth. The crickets and frogs were discussing the coming of Spring and enjoying the weather as well!!!!

We worked the puppies and the grown dogs on the ducks for a while. I am posting the photos of the puppies below. They all did good.

I took the puppies all six and the Maple Grove Farm Crew all 6 (total 12) dogs, on the puppies first woods walk. What fun!!!! They had me laughing so hard !!! We took Abilene’s Trail to the branch and crossed above the pond. Where we played in the branch and the puppies enjoyed fresh spring water to drink. We climbed the hill to the edge of our property and walked along an old woods road/ path and the smells were very interesting and new to all the dogs esp. the puppies. It was like a whole new world to them! Little noises just going crazy. I could all most hear them saying to each other. “Did you smell that? What is it? I don’t know! Let me smell it again, no wait I want to !! Let me let me?!! They were so funny!

Then the old dead tree that had rotted provided wonderful digging entertainment till I coaxed them down the hill through the broom sage that they found tickled them and rolled all around in and hid in. No mice or rabbits today (Lucky for them!) I expect even a bear would have had trouble with 12 English Shepherds on a woods outing!!!!!!!! Then down the hill and across the pond spill way about 4 feet wide and 4 inches deep running water. All crossed fine except two that were a bit worried but they did not take long to close their eyes and go for it!!! Then back across the dam and up the hill but not before checking out the pond and playing on the boat!!

The photos that follow are of this day…..And what a wonderful day it was!!!!!!
