Why A Shepherdess?

Thursday we had our first Fall lambs born. They came here without any trouble. Somewhere between birthing the first one and the second one the ewe walked off and forgot she had the first one. The first lamb knew who her mama was but the ewe said no way is that mine.

So I built a Jug in the field out of pallets and put shavings in and hay water and feed then caught the ewe with her lamb she claimed and locked them in securely. Then I went and caught the unclaimed lamb put it in and watched. Clearly it had nursed at some point for it was very strong. She butted it and was going to hurt it. So I put a divider in and tied her head so she could not hit it. watched and the lamb nursed with extreme caution.

This is Sunday, raining thank God…but the rain presents a problem. We put a pop up tent over the Jug and today there has been so much rain the tent collapsed I have worked on it off and on all day.

Tonight I looked at the tent and knew I had to fix it…so for the 5th time I went out in the cold pouring rain and flashlight in hand…dressed in 2 types of water proof clothing over my PJs, plus the solution to the problem till daylight.

I had to have something solid to go over the top of the Jug and I took our plastic camping table to make what rain collects to not collapse  into the Jug and to run off I hope!

The ewe still dislikes the lamb so maybe a few more days in the Jug will convince her.

Why do I do this? Because I love my sheep. Is this love returned…not that I can see…

I was sitting in the Jug with the lambs and Ewe and I was hugging the ewe…she was soft and smelled good! I realized then I love sheep…

It is a big responsibility to care for stock, properly, I try hard.

This morning the Preacher preached about peace and how to have it in our lives. I realized I have been called to a ministry here on this farm. I am to trust in all things and all ways because God  is teaching me to love what does not return my love..

why a shepherdess?!!!!!

There is that Kay determination again! It pops up whenever there is a problem to fix!
