Feb’24 Litter

The PBR Litter!

I believe one of my responsibilities as a good breeder is to be a mentor to other upcoming breeders.
When my friends down east wanted to breed their good working English Shepherd I was excited and pleased! Knowing their life Robin a doctor and her husband Michael a busy high school coach, time was an issue plus they have a young son “Ry” and a farm with chickens, horses, cows and sheep! Time is not a surplus for them…

Mutton began her sweet life with me 5 years ago a puppy out of my BOO and Drover…my friends from down east visited frequently and their sweet young son Ry and Mutton bonded closely from the beginning. Because Ry’s family was in the middle of building a new home and had 3 dogs, I did not place Mutton with them. Once the new home was complete I called them and asked if they still wanted her? Of course they did…especially Ry. Mutton has saved Ry’s life already! By alerting his dad when Ry was having a seizure. She wasn’t quite a year old and yet so naturally in tune with her boy! The McKeels have been wanting to breed Mutton so after much searching and consideration, found a fine match for Mutton…Noble! I am deeply invested in Mutton’s litter and want to be a part of the whelping and raising of the puppies. So after some thought I volunteered for the job of whelping and raising the litter. Please understand…these puppies do not belong to me…I will just be making the decisions on placement and all other matters regarding this litter. I look forward to raising these puppies! I am excited about this cross and seeing how they mature!

A little about the parents…

Mutton

Mutton started her life here at Maple Grove Farm, a beautiful wolf sable pup out of my sweet BOO and Drover. She is an amazingly attentive, very intelligent dog with a great temperament to boot. She is friendly with strangers and incredibly stable in every new situation she encounters. She takes her job of watching out for her boy Ry very seriously. Always at his side, ‘helping’ or at least supervising whenever possible. She lives on a small farm with sheep, cows, a bunch of chickens, some horses, cats, and other dogs. She gets along with them all and helps out wherever necessary. She rides the go cart with her boy and goes with the golf cart around the farm. Really an excellent all around farm dog, as a good English Shepherd should be! Mutton is on the smaller side of medium build, about 19″ tall and 45lbs with good bone and substance.

Noble

Noble is a nice black and tan dog with a natural bobtail. He is out of a black and tan male who is directly out of two Sallee’s dogs. His dam is a granddaughter of Butcher’s Foothills Elsa who was known to be a great working dog, she is also my Drover’s dam. Noble lives on a small farm with cattle and has been around many farm animals in his life including poultry and cows. He is good with both, doesn’t bother cats and is in fact also very gentle with small animals. He has a steady, stable temperament and is very friendly with strangers. He is 10 years old and very agile still. Always down to play with his ball! He is very in tune with his people, intelligent and picks up new things quickly. He is a moderately built dog, around 22.5″ and 55lbs in his prime (you know we all tend to gain extra ‘fluff’ with age, ha). He has a very masculine head, a kind expression and good bone structure.

Puppies born February 9th 2024. 6 males, 2 females.

This is the PBR litter! Mutton’s boy, Ryland has been intrigued by Professional Bull Riding since he was old enough to talk. Of course this litter of mostly boys was the perfect opportunity to use PBR cowboy names!
