Wood Cutting

Les and I had talked about a wood stove for heating our home and finally it all was finished October 12 th. The room still needs work but oh that heater is working wonderfully!!!

Now the process of cutting wood has begun!  Today we went across the top of the hill behind our barn and home and began clearing the old horse trail so our  gator can haul the wood down for us. We found a nice dry hickory lap from the timber cutting two years ago and it is easy to get to! Yeah!!!

Les also built me a shelf for my boots on the wood side porch so the dogs will not bother them. HA! They do not bother my shoes at all! But it is real nice to have them off that small floor space. We used an old bracket off an old house we remodelded in Randleman years ago that I saved for just such an occasion!

Drover, BOO, and Amarillo worked the ducks and sheep this afternoon. It was a beautiful day!

I am making my Grandma’s homemade (no sure jell) Pear Preserves tonight. I have no idea how long it will take they have been on the stove for 5 hours so far.  You take 2 cups of pears pealed and sliced, 2 cups of sugar, 2 cups of water, dash of salt, 2 tsps of vanilla flavoring and 2 TBS of lemon juice. Then you boil slowly until thick. Tomorrow I will do it all over again. This is my first time by myself. I have watched Grandma do this all my life.
