Today was beautiful! A bit windy but sun shinning and nice!
This morning I took the puppies on a “walk about” . We went to the pond and they played there for a while. Then we headed down to the field behind the dam to check on our burn pile of brush. That was all okay so we headed to the woods along the branch that separates our property from the Wood’s property. This is where the electric fence is going up for the sheep. We went down a deep ditch and up the other side. Now just imagine Five Nine Week old English Shepherds all walking and playing exploring as we went along. It was so much fun for me and them not to mention the older dogs. We came out into the field about the time Montanna barked “Squirrel! Squirrel! ” But she finally gave it up and on we traveled across the big field to the sheep pens.
There I let the sheep out and then allowed the puppies to come in to assist with the ducks. What a time they had! (We now have 20 duck eggs I am getting 3 a day) I have a neighbor that has a hen setting and I think I will see if we can hatch some ducks.
After lunch I struck out to the woods again with the pups. We went above the pond in the woods where the puppies discovered the branch. They would get up the bank then run slide down the bank and slash in the branch water and do it all over again! We went by the old dead tree that has rotted standing up and they played and smelled all round it then to the spill way where the water was running and splash through it they flew!
Jackson Creek is about 1/2 mile from the pond so down the runway and across the fields we went to the creek. They were not to thrilled with the fast moving water at first (very shallow) but they did not know that. Then across the bridge Grandpa and Daddy built years ago to the Daniel Nance Branch and the puppies crossed this fast moving water. We walked the bottoms for a while marveling at the beauty and how nice the day was and then over the the creek again.
This crossing was just below a nice 3 to 4 foot deep clear swimming hole that I call Boobie Dog’s Swimming Hole. It was his favorite place and he would go with me and swim and swim and wade and bark at the water bugs and in general keep all the undesirables run out whatever species they might be! Two weeks before he passed away all most 3 years ago to today we went to this very spot and he enjoyed himself and his swim so much that day. It was a bit warmer than today but what a good time he had . We stayed that day till it got too cold.
Well the puppies started to complain a bit they were getting hungry and tired so we headed back the way we came except we went across the dam and up by the boat and to the porch where they ate some puppy food and drank water and are now laid out snoozing! I expect they will sleep good tonight!
These puppies are so amazing and smart. They walked with me all the way and never fell to far behind. I never once had to call them they stayed with me. They loved every minute of the “walk about”. not one wanted to be carried nor did I have to convince them to cross water ditches or anything. When I sat down and rested they did too. They stayed out of my way walking and were very smart when we went by the horses staying right with me . Not once were they afraid of anything! I really like these puppies!
