Well I had a very nice trip! Long going it seemed! What with the puppy and three airports! Then there was the rental car problem… The reservation did not work! Not my fault! Then there I was in a strange city and no transportation! A puppy that had traveled in her bag for 6 hours and did I mention “NO CAR”!!! A very nice lady at the Alamo counter suggested I contact her friend at “Rent a Wreck” That’s right! Not a good first impression! Then the cab ride my first as a grown person! And a cabby that wanted a big tip for the 2 block ride! That’s right!
By the time I got to Rent a Wreck I was a WRECK! I was nervous, scared, sick to my stomach and yeah SCARED! Rick the owner was very nice! The paper work completed and I was on my way 1 and 1/2 hour after landing ! Still shaky, mad at “Budget” BUT $ 100.00 SAVED! The puppy and I hit I-95 North out of Albuquerque New Mexico and on to Los Alamos . It was dark I was in the desert and the speed limit was 75 MPH! After calling several times to clarify my directions we arrived in Los Alamos. The puppy met her new family and I fell into bed 2:00 AM EST …
Wednesday I slept in a bit then headed out to view the Cliff dwellings in the area. (I have all ways wanted to see them for real!) I had fun but was very tired for sure. I learned much and missed LES a lot! It was so dry and the altitude killed my eyes and ears! Christa and I went to dinner at a New Mexico Restaurant “Decorous” (all the many colors) the food and the company was excellent! Then to bed and sleep!
Thursday I spent driving back to Albuquerque area and stopping at State Parks and Site seeing! Really MISSING LES!!!
Friday returned the car to Rent A Wreck (a GREAT car rental!) a short shuttle ride (NO CABBY) and back on the plane headed home! NOW the ears are really hurting from the altitude and my cold? Les was waiting for me at the airport in Charlotte and boy was I happy to see him!
It was a good trip, but lonesome with out Les! It was very, very hard for me to leave my puppy too! Staying was helpful for the new family ! I am glad for that and it helped me see how the puppy adjusts to the new home and I will be better at helping new families because of it! BUT I will all ways remember that sweet Abilene looking girl curled up in her bed snoozing all so sweet and innocent like. With not a clue I was leaving her! She is fine! It was just so very difficult for me after the trip and our difficulties and the time I had spent with her… BUT it is what I do. And this puppy “Raina” just like the other 7 puppies from this Abilene Drover litter, will have the wonderful life that I want all my puppies to have and I know that… It was just the prolonged leaving her that was so hard for me.

Kay,
I’m so glad your trip home was less eventful than the trip out! Raina is doing well, but she misses you too! Still no accidents in the house, and she seems to know sit and down already too! I wish we could take credit for her brilliance, but I think it’s all you and Abilene. We went for a long hike yesterday up in the mountains, and she loved it. She took a few minutes to adjust to the new setting, but by the end of the hike her tail was high and she was circling back and forth between Ethan and I, letting Ethan know that he was walking too fast for me.
Thanks again for making the trip out here.
Christa
Christa has a new best friend! Isn’t it wonderful? Your generosity in giving Raina to Christa will come back in some way, don’t you think?
