Late last night I was out feeding the puppies their warm milk (this was my second feeding.) They had finished and I had let Amarillo back in as I was saying “goodnight” to the sweeties (the three I had been holding and snuggling with) were very hard to leave… All of a sudden I heard a loud sound like a person hollering “ahhohaho” (it was so loud and so close it scared the fire out of me !) I had Drover crated for the night, as was BOO and Abilene in the trailer. Montanna was the only dog loose. Amarillo had a fit ! Cause what ever it was was getting louder and close! She wanted out I heard Montanna in the yard start to go out after it. Okay panic for me! I am thinking is this some coyote trick to lure one dog out? Oh NO!!!!!! Montanna!!!! Come here! NO! Come Here! NO NO NO! as she goes up the hill in the dark after the thing I am in the yard by now and have these goose bumps all over me the thing is scary sounding all the dogs are having a living fit! Whatever it was had to be up in the woods not far and Montanna was headed towards it. Interestingly enough it was not moving! It had come up the holler behind the corn crib and then turned along parallel with my barn/shop. Well here I go Sheep PJs, High Rock Hosiery Socks sandal Crocks and no flashlight no weapon! Screaming at Montanna Come Here! Yeah I lost it! Must have worked ! As I reached the woods the thing still screaming started moving on away from us and Montanna came to me! See I run the monster off!! Yeah! Good Dog! Now get to the house!
All this time I had hair on my neck and arms standing up with chills of fear running all over me! Whew! I put Montanna up and went to bed! Les said “why were you yelling at Montanna? ” I said YOU DID NOT HEAR THAT SOUND?” “No I was asleep till you woke me yelling!” Oh me !
It was a bob cat! I have never heard one that close before! They sound different ! I understand why they sound like they do way off in the distance now!
