Drover, Again…

I came home too late to feed while there was still daylight. So off to the sheep pens in the dark on the JD Gator and a flashlight to see by! I took Drover (to help with the animals)and Montanna to help with any copperheads!  They are specialists in their fields!

The Kacky Campbells  (ducks) were out but ready to go in the pen. But ducks do not see  well at night! Only evidence I have is from experience, if it is dark they cannot see the gate opened! So we had a bit of a time accomplishing the ducks getting through the gate.

Did I mention I traded for two Mallards a hen and a drake? They are the small variety of Mallard, and I figured they would do well for the puppy duck herding testing. The drake is mean, so I had to  put them in with my Kacky’s.  Drover has took great interest in the new additions and if they are not up with the others he goes to look for them.

While I was trying to feed everybody and  having sheep run between my legs because they wanted feed and wanted it now, Drover was a looking after the ducks. Not good for me! (the sheep knew Drover was busy and took advantage !Next time Amarillo will go with me in the sheep pens! No sheep will come near me then. It is amazing the difference just her presence has on the sheep and their behavior. Anyway Drover went across the branch and came back with that Mallard drake in his mouth just like he was a bird dog bringing a bird to me! Only the duck was fine and not a feather harmed! He sat down and said “Here’s your duck! You are Welcome!”  AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!  what a dog! I expect I may have praised him a bit too much the other evening!  Gosh, he is smart!  And way ahead of me!
