“Precious Memories”

My post tonight has nothing to do with English Shepherds BUT Maybe Everything to do with them!

Tomorrow we will have Easter Dinner (lunch) at my Grandma’s house only Grandma will not be there for the first time. As most of you know she passed away in June last year…. I feel kind of emotional and gosh do I miss her. Oh Grandma, you are gone but yet so near! In fact you are everywhere I look, and in all most everything I do and even how I think about things!

I have been busy this evening preparing food to take. As I fixed potato salad  it reminded me of all the discussions Grandma and I had on how to make good potato salad. She was a great cook but potato salad was not one of” her dishes” and we would talk about who made good potato salad . At church dinners she and I would sample all the potato salads there and never found one we liked very well. Now my Aunt Janet (Momma’s sister) all ways made the best potato salad Grandma and I both agreed on that …that is how I made this potato salad…

I remember being at Grandma’s on Sunday mornings and getting ready for church. It was the same process every Sunday as long as she and Grandpa were together (he passed away 17 years ago) they were married 58 years. She would lay his clothes out on the bed . He would get dressed. Then ask her “Lyde where is my handkerchief?” She would say “It’s in the top drawer ” (same place it was for 58 years I expect) . “Where’s my boots?” (she had polished them for him the day before) “On the back porch!” “Come here and comb my hair!”  Which she did, all the time getting ready herself and as she cooked Sunday dinner for all of us !

I was just thinking about the Bible verses that describe love, “patience, kind, thinks the best….” That was her!

As I made my deviled eggs (out of my fresh duck eggs!) I remember Grandpa all ways liked to clean the bowl, I can see him now doing just that!

I fixed some cucumbers in vinegar and sugar water all ways my favorite and one of the last things she made for me before she went to heaven! I don’t think I will be able to eat them this time…

Before we would sit down to eat Grandma would say a few words about how she was proud of her Grand Children and Great Grand Children and how she was glad we were all gathered to gather again. How she missed the ones that had gone on..(Grandpa, my Daddy, Derrick youngest grandson, Barbara and Anna daughter in laws) Then she would ask someone to return “Thanks” and we would all enjoy a wonderful meal as a family.

After everyone left she would sit in her swing under the maple tree and rest.

I guess now she was doing what I have been doing tonight…. Remembering days and loved ones that have gone on….

I may sound sad and I am … But my heart is so full of love  and my mind full of “Precious Memories” … As my friend Tosha says “Its all good!”
