Monday was just beautiful here! The dogwoods have been incredible this spring as well as the redbud trees. Our azaleas in front of our house are starting to bloom and will put on quite a show. But my favorite has been the little bluets (Easter Flowers) my Momma calls them. Up “My Road” they have been like a carpet of blue on the ground. To me a “Promise” that the trees in the forest will grow tall and big again in their own good time. That is good enough for me . Some day 100 years from now some girl or boy will enjoy “My Road” again and wonder about who traveled it so many years before… I like that.
The dogs have been busy! Playing, sunning, napping, eating bones from the butcher. At night they have kept the place safe from everything that goes bump or makes an odd noise in the dark! Then there are birds to keep watch on and vermin to chase and catch.
Speaking of birds I saw a flock of maybe 30 Gold Finches this evening next to the pond. I love these beautiful small yellow birds. I all ways feel blessed to see one let alone a flock like today! I think they are my favorite birds. At night I hear Owls in the distance. So strong and magnificent sounding! In the early hours of the morning I hear the Whippoorwills…. And as the sun comes up the birds start their praise to the Creator! Oh my goodness! If you have not heard that song you must get to the country and hear it! For there is nothing like it!
The ducks are such a pleasure to have on the farm. They eat bugs and travel all over waddling back and forth as they travel along in the grass. You know I just enjoy seeing the ducks do duck things! Farm entertainment !
Then every evening Drover and I gather the ducks up for the night and bring the sheep up for their evening meal . Tonight we have a fire built so the smell of wood smoke accompanies the fresh cut grass and clean rain smell. Well supper is on.. Chicken and a green salad….
