Anyone that has been to our farm knows there are beautiful Magnolia Trees along our drive way. I LOVE the sent and oddly enough they are starting to bloom way up high. I believe they are a bit early this year!
Those trees would be much larger if I had not been the lawn mower person for so many years when they were first planted. For some unknown reason to me my Mother Loved those trees and all ways had wanted them . I saw them as IN THE WAY when I mowed! We had a good riding mower from SEARS! It did not have a steering wheel but a steering handle. It was a tough mower and Lord knows I was rough on it! I liked to ride up and down the driveway on it instead of mow with it and wore the wheels off it literally in one summer I think! But back to those trees. I ran over them all the time with that mower, and pretended that I could not help it being on a slick bank and all. I bet I killed 10 of them before Daddy laid the law down to me as he was replanting them!
EVERY TIME they bloom or I use the beautiful leaves for an arrangement I think of how hard I was on the trees and what a wonder it is they grew and survived me!
The fragrance will be heavy on the breeze soon giving the farm a feeling of the Low Country . Thank you Momma for the trees, and your vision! What a pleasure they are! but they are still hateful to mow around! But I don’t mind!
