It has been difficult for me to write daily for about the last two weeks. For one I have been real busy with all the puppies and their departure for their forever homes. Then there is the sadness that I feel with their leaving. Course it is spring on the farm and so much to do too! Plus I have been preparing for the Leave No Trace Course I am heading out to teach tomorrow in The Pisgah National Forest.
The Back Country Horsemen’s Association has a Pack in Trip for one night and I will be sharing ways with these good folk on how to help preserve our wonderful National Forest areas as well as Wilderness Areas and still be able to ride our horses there and camp. These National Treasures are being visited more and we need to do all we can to minimize our impact as visitors there!
Leave No Trace is for ALL Visitors not just horse back riders….
There are Seven Principals of Leave No Trace:
1 Plan Ahead and Prepare.
2 Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces.
3 Dispose of Waste Properly.
4 Leave What You Find.
5 Minimize Campfire Impacts.
6.Respect Wildlife.
7. Be Considerate Of Other Visitors.
All these principals if followed will not only make your visit more enjoyable, safe, fun, and special. But will allow those that come after us to have the same kind of experience.

A note on my trip. Abilene is going with me and I have borrowed Cheyanne from Buck and Diane Sossoman to ride for this trip. Seems my horse Texas has some hoof issues and is barefoot right now and not advisable to ride him. I sure do appreciate friends like Diane and Buck! They all ways come through for Les and me when we need them! Yes they are GOOD FRIENDS!!!
Cheyanne had a bath this evening and looks good enough to take to a show! ABILENE will get her bath in the morning! I ran out of strength! No it is not normal for me to bathe the dogs, but we will be in close quarters and I do not fancy her smell or her “special friends”!!!!
