III…Drover’s Stock Dog Diary…

Well, Yesterday morning it was raining! Raining sideways to be correct! I am not sure how it ever hit the ground…Anyway Kay just turned the sheep out and we all (us dogs) jumped on the Gator and went to feed the horses!

I hid my head behind Kay’s arm and her big soft coat. She seemed to like that a lot! But let me tell you that rain was a stinging my face and I did not like that a bit!

When we got back to the barn Kay parked the Gator in the shop. All us dogs jumped off (in order as per Kay’s directions) anyway we bounced round the back of the barn and there were those sheep in the second barn isle eating hay! Now we scared the sheep! We did not mean too! But they all ran and instead of into their stall they went to the front of the barn. Now Kay very wisely put All the Girls up and had me come along to help her.

We walked around and there stood the sheep getting beat with that side ways rain! (gotta wonder!) I was at Kay’s side. She looked down at me and said “Can you bring those sheep to me?”  I cocked my head sideways and she said (sounded  like she was wondering what she should do) softly “Can You bring me those sheep?”  YOU BET I CAN! and I was off!!!! I ran round the opposite side of them and and balanced to Kay and then I shot those sheep back toward her! Man was I ever fast! I was so pleased! I brought those sheep licked split round the back of that barn and then UH OH!!!  I could finally hear Kay sayIng “easy, slow down!”  Too late ! Sheep went back round the barn! “I can go get em!” Kay is saying DOWN! I did!

We went back round and Kay looked at the sheep they looked at her then me and she said “Drover can you bring me the sheep easy like this time!?”  When she said that those sheep took off down to their field! I never moved! So I walked with Kay down to the gate and helped hold em till she shut the gate!

Kay said I did good! She was so proud of me! Did I mention that sideways rain? Kay said those sheep could have stayed in their stall today but they would get a good bath instead!  Sheep don’t seem to mind either!

We went back and turned out The Girls!  And we all went and found us a dry place and settled in for the day! I dreamed of sheep work!
