HERDING CLINIC MAR.12-14,2010
CLINICIANS:
SANDRA LINDENMUTH ,FRANKLIN GEORGIA & CLAIRE APPLE, PITTSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA
Friday evening we started the clinic in the shop with our dogs on leash and Sandra and Claire explaining herding terms and live stock flight zones as well as arena set up for trials.
We all went to Ricks a local country restaurant and had supper and got to know each other.
Saturday morning started early and we were doing dog less herding for most of the morning. We used sheep and ducks and each person had a turn at being the handler and the dog. It was quite eye opening and a wonderful learning experience for all! It taught us what we had talked about the evening before and made things easier for us when we started handling our dogs on the stock. Lunch was hot dogs and the trimmings Margaret Proctor and my DH Les did a excellent job!
The afternoon was spent on runs on the stock. We had a few rain showers but nothing too serious! We used both ducks and sheep, and had a great, but tiring time. We were all ready for supper again we went out to the Mexican Restaurant and ate outside yes it was nice enough! Then home for a shower and bed!
Sunday the time changed and as usual I was behind on time. Margaret looked at me in my PJs having hot cider and said “do you know what time it is?” I said “y e s” and realized that clock had not been changed and I had 10 minutes to be at the sheep pens! Thank goodness for great friends that are good helpers too!!!!!!! All was well and we started on time with Q & A . Most of the day was spent on runs.Lunch was Les famous grilled chicken with slaw, potato salad and beans . It was real good!!!
It was a very busy, fun weekend and we learned so much! The format worked real well. Sandra worked the livestock and Claire explained what was going on. Even though the teaching and ideologies are different for the two Clinicians it worked well and we all benefited from their expertise and experience.
