This is Abilene’s 5th and final Litter of Puppies. I will not spay her unless she needs it. But there will be no more puppies. She has done more than her share. I want her to have a healthy long, happy life.
I remember her first litter. I was sure she was going to deliver and my friend Rebecca stayed for 2 days and nights waiting and soon as Rebecca went home Abilene went into labor and delivered her puppies on my bed in the tack room. It was on the floor and she had a nice place to whelp on but she thought my bed was best!
And so the last litter started out much the same way. I was off 2 days and waiting up all night. Plus the first puppy was delivered on my bed! in the Whelping room.
The whole birthing process is an amazing thing. A site to behold. The wonder of how the animal knows what to do . Where it is a first time whelping or the 5 th one.
Watching Abilene deliver she had a few contractions and out comes this slick , fluid filled sack with a dark being inside it. It looks all wet and it is! How she takes her teeth and tears that sack away from the puppy inside of it never once harming the puppy and ever so carefully and gently expertly takes that puppy from its watery world to our world filled with air! She expertly cuts the umbilical cord with her teeth again easy and carefully.How that tiny deaf and blind little creature starts to breath and then cry! It comes out nursing whatever its tiny little mouth finds ! Soon as Abilene has it all cleaned up it is doing the puppy walk/crawl to the nearest Milk Bucket! Come on “THAT” is AMAZING! it has a nose that “knows” ! That tiny puppy can find a milk bucket drink its fill and go to sleep. And Abilene is still delivering more brothers and sisters!
Abilene is moving round and taking care of the next puppy and all ways just like there is only ONE puppy there she never steps on or mashes any of the puppies! And I know it has to be painful to her but even in that pain she is all ways aware of where “each” little precious puppy is!
The puppies continue to nurse, climb, bury, roll and make puppy noises all in pursuit of food, warmth and sleep.
Amazing!
How God has created all of His creation and how it is all so intricate. I do not have the words to explain what I am trying to say or what I feel! Sighs my spirit and ahs like when you let all the air out of your lungs. Simply, completely, amazing, humbling, awesome.
