Five Weeks Old!!!! What is Happening!!!

Week Five (Days 29-35)

DEVELOPMENT OF THE PUPPIES
  • Group activities and sexual play will begin
  • Dominance order starts
  • Rapid growth/development
CARE OF THE PUPPIES
  • Reduce fluids in puppies’ food
  • Make sure other people start coming to see pups
  • Begin weaning
  • Play radio at normal volume near pups for 5 minutes at a time
  • Have all kinds of noise so the puppies will be use to different sounds
CARE OF ABILENE
  • Start reducing amount of food to discourage milk development
  • Keep a careful eye on mammary glands
  • She does not spend all of her time with the puppies

    Hello Kay,
    Ralph and I are getting more excited about “our puppy” every day. She is almost six weeks old now. How are all of your “Babies” doing? Their developmental progress is amazing to me. It has been awhile since we saw anything posted about puppies on your web site (We check it at least once a day). It is better than getting a letter from home!!! I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to having her. She’ll be lots of company for me, at least until she joins Hilda in the pasture and barn when she is older. Ralph spends most of his time outside doing chores or keeping Hilda company. I don’t drive so manage my time weaving (it’s child’s play level for me) sewing (mostly wall hangings…also elementary level) and cooking (Ralph, bless him, shares this chore with me and is by far the better cook). The puppy will be great company for me.
    Kiss you puppies for me and rub Abilene’s ears. She has been a fine mama.
