It is hard to remember a nicer day!
I have a puppy in Snow Hill, NC out of the first Abilene Drover litter. His name is Tucker and I have been promising to visit Marlene, Mrs. Dixie and Tucker for Months!
It was a beautiful warm sunny spring like day as I left for Snow Hill… Les and I had breakfast at Blue Mist on HWY 64 East of Asheboro, and afterwards he proceeded on to work. I stopped in Apex to return the scales I borrowed from Rebecca for the puppies and dropped off my registration paper work too.
Then I stopped at a little tack shop down the road from Rebecca’s…Drover of course was along for the trip with me and he was allowed into the tack shop to visit. Well, you will never guess who was in the tack shop! Richard Swift!!! He had been walking on the Great American Tobacco Trail with his and Diane’s dogs (2 are English Shepherds) and had stopped in to visit. Richard was as surprised to see me as I was him! Of course he started telling the story where Drover wet him on the way back from Wyoming! We all had a good laugh! It was good to see Richard and hear his stories!
Our next stop was in Goldsboro at the “Second Fling” shop…. OKAY!!!! It would take a good day of looking to go through this amazing shop! I came out with a slightly used pair of Crocks for all most nothing! Capris were 1.75!!! They had everything! Oh yes this is on my list to do Right …soon!!!
Marlene was getting worried that I was lost! I suppose I was… Lost in the moment, in the joy of the beautiful day, of just being a live human being free on the face of the earth!
I drove up to Marlene’s sheep farm. She has the most beautiful Dorper Sheep. they are stocky built and well fed with beautiful kind black faces… I love the expressions they have.
We talked sheep, dogs, ducks, horses, mules, bunnies, flowers, eggs, chickens, and how to make a film (Marlene was in the film making business until she came back to NC about 10 years ago!) As my Grandpa use to say “this was right up my alley!” I had the BEST time!!!
All too soon it was time to leave…Mrs. Dixie (Marlene’s Mom) gave me a huge bag of shelled pecans from her grove, along with 4 dozen fresh eggs…I shall enjoy both for quite some time to come! And Les will love the Pecan Pie I am making him tomorrow!
We traded and I came back with 26 Call Ducks! They are beautiful!
Mrs. Dixie and Marlene live on their home place and it has the most wonderful assortment of old Daffodils! There are the butter cup ones, hen and egg ones, white ones and a tiny sweet smelling one! I LOVE Buttercups! They are my favorite!!!
Yesterday before any rain they had picked me two large handfuls of the assorted daffodils!!!!!
Soon as I arrived home I put them in fresh water and arranged the flowers in two vases. I can smell them all through the house. Ah! What a sweet gift! In so many ways! What a perfect end to a perfect day!
More on Tucker and my visit to my cousins Terry and Beverly!!!!
It was a big trip for one day!
