I just had to share what we accomplished this morning…
We have 7 Ewes with 11 lambs…Daily I take them out to the pasture, and at night I bring them up to the barn. (No fences in between the two) Mornings are tough..Lambs jumping being lambs even Momma’s just not as high! But they follow me okay but need encouragement from behind. A person does not do the job, it has to be a dog. Evenings are easy they get fed in the barn and know it! So they all follow the Gator up!
Now I have been getting Drover to wait and walk up as needed. He has watched and done this going on 3 weeks. I have had a friend help me show him what I needed, and that was the break through point I believe…
Well this morning he watched, waited, walked up, and FOLLOWED!!! he kept a decent distance and was not pushy, the Ewes and the Lambs went right down ! Oh so Easy!!! I am so tickled with him!
Then lambs being lambs ran out the gate before I could do anything. Drover eased around and behind and walked them back up and through the gate! I think he’s got the idea!
And he is really interested in the lambs. He sits and watches while I water. He has the most curious look about him!
Drover may be a sheep dog!

That is great and you know that will relate to cattle also. It is his inherent instinct to herd. It is so wonderful that they can learn by watching. Skye and Madee have done the same thing. So excited for you.
