We had a great turn out for our Herding Work Shop at Maple Grove Farm!
Even though it rained off and on all afternoon. It did not dampen the mood nor the herders! I do not think we noticed the rain till we were through! (Well maybe it kept the people cool!) We started work at 1:00PM
We had 5 English Shepherds, 1 Aussie “Artie” that just passed his herding instinct test through AKC and 1 Border Collie!!!
We worked 36 sheep…Not at one time.
We separated sheep (with and with out dogs) into groups. 3 the smallest and 7 the largest sheep groups. Our shedding and separating sheep is not by the book! an interesting subject for a video I expect! Or methods are unique!
We worked in the 50 foot round pen and the 40 foot one as well as the driving lane. We doctored and checked sheep and their feet and put bells on some lambs!
Drover is trying to court Abilene who is safely locked into the horse trailer! He would come and help but then had to go courting! Little good it will do him! Silly boy! So in his absence Montanna got to work! Boy did she have fun! She even caught a mouth full of hair! After her work out she laid down and was so content to watch the others! I expect she will dream happy sheep dreams for a while!
Everyone had a great afternoon and I got to the house about 7:00PM!!
