We had a nice shower of rain this evening!
So feeding and putting the sheep up for the night was delayed till way after dark.
The rain cooled the air so that ground was much warmer than the air.
As I descended the hill in the pasture to the sheep pens and crossed the terraces, it was like going to another world. It was dark except for my light, and quiet but with crickets singing and off in the distance a frog sang about his pleasure because of the rain.
The fog that was hanging in the air was all most a mist. It made me think I was on some moor in Scotland …the sheep with their bells tingling and the soft bleats of the sheep made me forget everything but this moment and the magic of it all!
Drover, my steady companion and sheep dog went to the gate ahead of me to hold the sheep in their fold, and I safely shut the gate and locked it for the night.
We turned and as Drover walked up the path ahead of me I felt that I could have been a Shepherd alone with my dog and sheep in the wilds of another country ! As we crossed the last terrace I realized I was in Jackson Creek , NC….And that felt good too!!!
