Sheep, Drover, Weaning!!!

We separated the ewes from the lambs last evening. They fussed all night.

It was way to hot to move them till late this evening.

Drover and I put the lambs in the duck arena so they would have lots of grass to eat and be farther away from their Moms! What a job! Ewes calling their lambs createsa huge draw! (A draw is something that the sheep are naturally drawn to and do not want to leave)…

We started by gathering and bringing the lambs out of the arena. Drover could get them out and to me (I was standing at the gate) But the gate was set at a 90 degree angle and the sheep could not see the open gate. It looked to them like it was a solid fence. So they did not want to try to go through the gate. we worked and worked and gathered and finally drove the sheep in for the most part! It took a while! The last lamb (it split off and ran back to Mom!) I caught and carried to the pen!

Drover did great ! But it was NOT Pretty!!!

The lambs are all most 90 days old and are starting to pull the ewes down (weight wise) because they are so big! It will be better now for all of them.

Tomorrow we worm and trim feet!
