Les and I found a screen door for our back door, and Clay put it up last week. It has been so nice to have that air flow….
As a girl Grandma had screen doors on her house, and I loved to let them slam shut. Clearly it was considered bad manners to do so, for I was fussed at by Daddy for it! I LOVE the sound of a screen door slamming! I have screens doors on all 4 of my outside doors and I let them slam! Sometimes I help them slam louder!
When I was a girl (my Grandma’s term for herself as a young child) now mine… We did not have air conditioning. No one did much. This was the early 1960’s and at night it was hot! We had windows and they were open, and you could hear the crickets at night and other bugs. It use to drive me nuts! They just got louder and louder and it seemed like it was sing song same ! That same sound now brings back memories like a flood…It is music and pleasing to me , now.
Today I purchased 10 dozen ears of Silver Queen Corn from the local Farmers Market. (I do not even attempt to grow it for the Coons!)
Grandma had this easy recipe for freezer corn, you use ice water, salt , sugar, lemon juice and put it in bags and freeze it. It is crisp, pretty like fresh and delicious!
So as I write this I have sticky elbows (yes I washed!) and I have been listening to George Straight CD’s tonight! It has been kinda nice!
Thing is I miss my Grandma so much! She and Grandpa were my life. They taught me so much, and yes there is so much of them in me…I see things I say and do, think…It is Them!
I was putting up the corn and I felt all most sick… thinking about all the things we use to do and what she taught me. How good her stewed corn would be this winter! (She never would have left that mess I have in my kitchen though) smile…
I just had all these bitter sweet memories flood my being tonight…It is All Good…I just miss my Grandma and Grandpa so much…
