This evening as I sat at the table in my yard looking out at the pond and the beautiful fall folliage, with my 5 dogs around me….Amarillo in one of the chairs (she thinks that is where she belongs) . Drover beside me, Abilene talking her trash, BOO being well BOO, and sweet, sweet Montanna in front of me…
I was struck by the beauty and simplicity of the evening. It was about 5:00PM and the sun was sinking down low over Steep Rock Mountain. The light was that blinding Golden color that gives everything in its path a special warm golden feel. The leaves were gently falling one here and there and floating in the water. The reflection of the trees and mountains were in the pond as well. There was a light warm westerly breeze. It carried a hint of sweet smelling wood smoke from a distant neighbor’s woodstove. Was it Clay and Debbie’s or Loyd’s?
The ducks were happily basking in the warm sun light on the dam, all snuggled down in the fresh green grass. Full and happy with their lots in life.
Down in the field I heard the sheep bells softly tinkling and the soft calls of a ewe to her lamb…
The dogs and I took a tour of the field looking for the sheep and we needed to put the sheep up for the night in the arena. Drover handled this task with ease and confidence. It was all over in a few minutes…And I thought…This is truly a Simple Country Pleasure.
