As many of you all ready know….Maple Grove Farm has a new member! Her name is “Timber” formerly (Nessie) from Mary Peaslee’s Blue Moon Litter…
Belle the dam of this litter is out of Jarratt’s Dallas (my old dog ) I inherited Dallas I guess you could say from Mr. Ed Lynn Jarratt….Dallas was a natural born bob tailed male and he carried an old NC line in him known as the Helms dogs As well as Mr. Jarratt’s line. There is very little of this Helms blood line around. They are known for their hard working abilities and toughness…
I was never able to do much with Dallas herding, (more my lack of ability than his) but he sure had the ability and talent and passed it along to his off spring. As evidenced in the puppies that he sired for me….
When Mary decided to breed Belle I was very interested because Belle being out of Raven/Dallas had the talent and good temperament plus she was the right size IMO for working! I was lucky enough to get on Mary’s list!
Last week I made my journey to Oregon via USA Air! on Election day! All went well and I was met at the airport by Mary… We had a wonderful visit. And I was able to tag along with Mary as she took a lesson in herding from Elsie Roades and best of all I got to see Honey, Raven, Belle, and Tupelo work sheep. Mary has some very good working dogs, and it was fun to see them all work!
All to soon it was time to board the plane and head home with my new puppy! What a great ambassador for the breed she was ! I cannot tell you all how many folk learned about English Shepherds !!! Timber was so calm she never fussed once! I had numerous people ask me what I had given her to keep her so calm! NOTHING! was the reply!
The last few days have been fun. The weather has been great! So we have went to the sheep pens daily. She had her first ride on the gator! (Not a fan yet!) She loves playing in the tall grass and scooting and jumping, mousing but Timber has not met the mice YET! Oh, and the surprise pond swim! That was an accident! yes puppy can swim!
Today we put the sheep out and then went on a walk about! We went across the dam and off towards the creek, turning and going over the mountain and back down and around the upper side of the pond and back across the dam, at least a mile walk about… What fun! What a tired puppy!!!!!
Then this evening Timber and Drover and I put the sheep up for the night! Now for sure Timber is no help yet! But you better bet she is watching Drover’s every move and thinking about what it is he is doing!
Timber met my friend Jamie tonight and is now fast asleep in her crate in my bedroom!
Tomorrow we will start all over and practice leash training and watch the sheep and hang out while the sheep are being moved …
Oh and Timber sits like all my dogs do for their “Presents”!!!!
Ah…..Sweet Puppy Love!!!!
