My words are a poor way to describe what I saw this evening as Drover and I went down to gather the sheep and put them up for the night.
It was round 5:00 PM and the sun was sinking low over Steep Rock Mountain. The sky was grey and dark blue and heavy with clouds. The sun had that warm gold glow but filtered in thru the grey clouds. As we walked down to the field the water in the pond was still and looked like a mirror of the grey blue sky. The reflections were sharp and clear.
There were 3 Dive Damper Ducks (wild) and one tame duck on the pond and except for the ripples they made the pond was perfectly still. Reflecting all the star,k still, tall trees surrounding it.
As we approached the horse fence I could hear the sheep bouncing happily along eating grass and whatever they found to their liking! Having been up for 2 days they were quite happy and I could tell from the bells bouncing along as the sheep went here and there .
I had only returned home around 3:00 PM and the sheep were turned out at that time. So they were understandably not pleased with the thought of being put up just yet.
As we approached they went away from us. I left Drover in a down stay and approached a bit closer. Then sent him on an “away” He did a good job, gathered the reluctant sheep and we all started towards the sheep pens.
I looked east and the sun in a rich golden gold color had painted all the trees in their winter glory a deep dark golden gold color. (It looked as if the trees had been dipped in golden liquid gold (like candy dipped into a fine coat of sweetness)… This was against a dark (all most thunder storm like colored sky) …I stopped in total awe and wonder and had tears come into my eyes hot and fast at the sheer pure beauty of the scene. It reminded me of Van Goh’s Starry Starry Night painting but even that paled in the beauty of the moment I was in.
We penned the sheep and it was like walking thru a door into a grey room poorly lit after being in a brightly lit room….
But to my wonder and amazement I heard 5 deer in the woods in front of me. Then they burst out heads high in big leaping jumps on the run tails high and white and away they flew!
Oh the absolute wonder of God’s creation! Nothing could ever be as beautiful as the sunset this evening at Maple Grove Farm. What Promise , Hope and Beauty I beheld!
