Christmas Trees Past…

My first memory of choosing and cutting a Christmas Tree was from 1958…I was three years old…Daddy and Momma and I went to the Scout Camp …just across the creek from Fred’s (the neat old house we rented from Juanita and Fred Hunt) before we built where we live now. I remember Momma looking and looking….Daddy saying it was cold please choose one! I remember how tall they all were and bushy! But oh how they smelled so sweet and good…Finally the tree was chosen! Daddy cut it down with an ax. We carried it out of the cedar tree forest and to our car…Then on to home!

Momma got busy and decorated that big, bushy tall tree with colored lights, and pretty glass balls, silver garland and of course tons of icicles (remember the ones in a pack and you threw them up and let them fall ?!) What fun that was!

Daddy all ways liked Christmas and Christmas trees! The last one I put up for him in 1989…was beautiful…

Tuesday I went tree looking…The neighbor over across from our church Piney Grove UMC…had choose and cut trees. Hum…So I took Drover and we chose a nice fresh Leland Cypress! A bit to perfectly shaped, but Mr Floyd promised me next year to have some interesting ones to choose from!

I wanted to make sure all my ornaments that mean something to me were on this tree…

003This was purchased in 1977 it reminds me of my tricycle that Santa brought me in 1958…;)

004Grandma and Great Aunt Grace…had a tradition of giving me something that I could keep and use…One year they each gave me an ornament like this ! Both are on our tree!

006Cousin Beverly from down east gave me this lovely ornament some years ago. It is an angel made out of a cotton ball off the vine!

008I loved playing with paper dolls as a girl…This ornament reminds me of that simple pleasure from long ago!

010Dolly and Mary Hulin…many years ago gave Les and I this ornament…I love the horse and the bling! What a wonderful part of our lives our horses are and the friends they have brought us!

011 005In 1976 Great Aunt Grace, Grandma, and I attended a Christmas Bazaar at Great Aunt Ruth’s church in Thomasville…What fun we had! Grandma and Great Aunt Grace bought me these 2 handmade ornaments. (I have several others as well!) They are all ways on my tree!

013 014 007These three ornaments are from the tree I put up for Daddy in 1989…They are glass…and I still remember how beautiful that last tree was and how special it still is in my heart.

015 016Oh they have a bit of wear on them…These corn shuck doll beauties were made by my sweet Grandma in 1976 just for me! Grandma took a course at the Ag center …I LOVE these dolls… Grandma nor Great Aunt Grace never ever had a store bought doll as girls…They made them out of rags and snips of left over material.

001The tree!

Enjoy your family and friends this Christmas Season and through out the coming year! Live in the moment! Cherish, love and enjoy each loved one!

Merry Christmas !!!
