Drover and I went out to find the sheep about 4:00 PM so we could work them in the arena…
It is all ways a bad sign when there are no bells to be heard. ANYWHERE!!! One lamb was across the pond race, so I guessed they had all went to the mountain and the lamb had been left behind. This would be the sheep’s second time up on the mountain the first time they ate the deer corn!
Drover and I followed the trail and he looked! Everywhere!
We followed the old trail up by the old rock walled spring, used for years by the family that lived in a real log house just over the mountain. and The branch that feeds our pond and I played in as a child and still take my puppies on walkabout to. Where BOO , Abilene and Amarillo tree the coons and squirrels. Along the trail we have ridden horses on , 3 wheelers, and jeeps. And where I take walks looking for sheep (smile) …
We went to the top of the mountain…and just over the rise I saw the sheep grazing peacefully. I took a moment and caught my breath…
I sent Drover on an “Away” and he went out nice and gathered the sheep and brought them to me. I went down the driveway and Drover fell in behind and kept the sheep with me. We took them down the new horse trail and I could not help but smile! What a beautiful evening…The sun had set and the sky was grey blue gorgeous! It was a good evening to be alive! Herding sheep and out with my good dog Drover!
We went down the mountain and took the sheep to the pens and put them up. All went well.
I thought “gosh I wish we could have practiced for the trial next weekend” Drover and I need to work on penning and and such… Then I thought ” I do not care! No way can our work be any better than this!” Oh yes! We will practice tomorrow…But I have a fine dog! That knows and does his job…Very Well! This was “our Blue Ribbon”!!!
