This morning we had round bale hay delivered. Then headed to the doctor with Les.
When we arrived back this evening the sun had set and it was raining and windy cold.
The dogs went with me to tarp the hay ( I had it unloaded beside the field next to the gate for ease of feeding)…
The dogs kept the sheep off the gate and I left it open. But the sheep were more interested in the salt mineral I gave them;)
It was way past dark and I was wet thru and cold to boot. The snow started to fall…My ewes look like they could lamb anytime. I was afraid they might lamb tonight in this freezing mess…So nothing to do but move the sheep to the barn. In the dark…sigh…What should I do? No question…
I told Drover as I opened the gate “Come Bye” and off into the dark he went. I could see very little and only hear the sheep coming slowly and quietly. Yes!
Thru the gate they came and I could see it looked like the whole flock…I never said a word and started up the driveway to the barn. I had opened all the stall doors just in case…and turned on the lights. The sheep followed me quietly and finally in the light from the house I could see Drover bringing them along quietly and efficiently. On up to the barn I walked and I thought now how will I get them in the stall…remembering the last time I put the sheep in the barn. But in my head I could hear Cathy Hartley telling me to walk in through the doorway and they would go in…So I did and Guess What?!!!! They followed me in just like a lamb! Drover put them in… all…. and was doing his job without any encouragement or help from me! I stayed quiet and did my part and Drover did his!
We walked back down to the gator in the field where Montanna sat all wet and waiting for us! I went to shut the gate and Drover said UH! Hold it! Let me go see IF I got all the sheep! He went and looked for them and of course he had not left any! Drover loaded up on the gator and I shut the gate and went to the house with two very wet dogs! I am very pleased with my dog Drover my right hand and number one helper!!!
