I worked in my herb garden today getting it ready to plant. It is a new garden and under and in front of my kitchen window and just outside my kitchen door. I am kinda excited about this new herb garden! I have had pots of herbs before but never a garden!
It is small about 10 feet by 10 feet. Good rich dirt. Les and I tilled it up with the tiller and then I dug a square trench and rowed up the edges (like you would a potato hill) And left a center square too about 2 feet by 2 feet. So I have 4 sides and a center.
The dogs and I took the gator and went up on the mountain to find flat rock for stepping stones in the deep trench area .
Ever have that “Feeling” YOU KNOW something? The very first rock I found on the mountain nice and flat Perfect! I thought “could be a snake under that rock! ” Nah! Flipped it over and Holy Smoke! SNAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I screamed DOGS!!!!! They were on it had it killed in a moment! Literally! It was what we call a Pilot Snake, poison for sure! But Just as dead ! Good dogs! (Drover was the first dog!)
We proceed on and gathered flat rocks all over the mountain…Went back home After a great outing…Put the stepping stones down… Nice ! Now to cut the cross ties to hold the soil in place…Then rake the dirt around all of the rock and the ties..Ready to plant!
You ask what will I plant? Currently I have Chives, Sweet Basil (my favorite) Parsley, Lettuce (the garden is a protected area from dogs to help with the watering:) Cilantro, Nasturtiums and marigolds…Oh and some spinach! But I am sure I will add some other herbs…I do have room!:)
Photos when I finish it!
Yes One more item there is a mystery concrete base in my garden…What did Daddy have there? No idea! But I am going to attach my Sun dial made by our friend and local potter Clay Trotter!
Les is going to fix a fence too! (in the mean time we will use the X pens)
This is going to be a wonderful garden!
