The United Methodist Women’s Society met at our home Monday night.
We had turkey and dressing and the trimmings! Including Pumpkin Pie and Persimmon Pudding (my Grandma Delk’s Recipe!)
Afterwards we sat round the dinner table and talked about what we were Thankful for …And WHY! Now I admit to having the idea and time to think about my answer. But was I ever blessed!
I have known most all these ladies most of my life. For example…
Juanita Winslow was there when I was born …she will be 90 soon! Her daughter Betty and I were friends growing up. But to hear these ladies and their answers… Blessed me …And everyone present.
I heard about one lady that grew up in an orphanage. What her life was like and how family her family had all ways been important and ow she seen to that.
How one lady had 2 good husbands (both are buried now) but how she had grown up in the neighborhood and attended church went in a wagon! How her Mother washed clothes for 9 children and fed them. How she had never had a dollar till she was 16 and went to work.
How one lady loves her grandchild and family and how they are so important to her.
Another spoke of shelling peas and being raised in a large family. How her family worked together and stayed close no matter what.
Through all these stories of hard times and by today’s standards “want” there was no hunger. Clothes were clean, bodies were too. While they lacked things they had each other and love! Love abounded! And still does! Many changes have occurred…and things are much different today. Nicer homes. Cars. lots of things… Love…caring, concern, and well love of each other and family abounds!
We agreed that Jackson Creek is still the best place to be raised and be from!:-)
No way can I describe the feeling and the understanding and the special gift… I was given through the sharing at the dinner table that took place. But I am one blessed person in my spirit and soul for what I heard Monday night!
My Grandma And Grandpa Delk (I am thankful for their influence on my life!)
