After the live auction ended on Face Book for Laree I realized I had not put my sheep up. It was 10:30 PM Dark and cold. Not a problem we have put sheep up many times in the dark this time of year…
Drover and I headed to the gate at the end of the dam. It was mighty quiet…(no sheep bells )
Drover ran ahead happy to be about his work and was sitting at the gate waiting for me…
I sent Drover through the gate and told him to go find the sheep and bring them to me…
Drover:
I went looking for the sheep…I looked high and low. In all three far fields. I went to the fence that separates Richard’s land from ours. Nothing! I went to the neighbors …Nothing! I was gone a good 7 minutes…Kay sent me again and walked a ways looking and listening too, nothing…It was quiet!
I searched behind the dam..Nothing…I searched the big field too…Nothing! Not a sheep nor a bell anywhere. By now it was way after 11:00 PM . Kay went to the house got her cell phone and extra flash light and lantern. She said “I bet they are up on the mountain!”
So off we went! We walked a mile and Kay stood at the little shed on the mountain and sure enough way off in the distance there were bells and sheep! (Ask Kay why her sheep wear bells!) I waited quietly and then Kay sent me on an ‘Away” I gathered the sheep all 30 of them and brought them to Kay! Nice and quiet and easy…Then I drove the sheep for a good 1/2 mile ! The sheep became confused because it was dark and the broom sage was everywhere and they could not tell where the trail was! Kay had me to wait and she went to the front of the flock and I kept the sheep behind Kay quietly and carefully not pushing too hard and up and over the mountain we went! We took the sheep right to the gate in the front of the house and put the sheep up for the night!
Kay:
I am so pleased with my dog! I could not have found my sheep let along gotten them up! What a fine dog! What an adventure! 🙂 We arrived back home around 12:30 AM !!!
