With it getting dark early …we have been gathering our flock of sheep up around 8:30 PM…(Before the coyotes come calling) So the sheep have a nice long grazing time in the far fields.
Tonight Drover and I walked across the dam. I was dressed for cold weather. Interestingly the air would be really cold to my face and then warm for a few seconds..??? No idea what was up with that!
We quietly in the dark walked to the gate as I could hear the sheep bells in the distance. When I got to the gate Drover waited quietly and then I told him Away! He brought the sheep thru the gate efficiently but a tad to fast for good stock handling…Then I sent Drover back to look and make sure he had all the sheep as I could not tell… He did a through check of the field and came back with out any sheep. Good Dog!
We headed cross the dam…The sheep had all ready crossed it and were contently grazing in the yard. I never said a word… Drover eased off after the sheep and gathered them to the gate and held them there while I walked to the gate. I opened the gate and he brought the sheep into the field! (Not a word from me!) Then we went and shut the gate behind the dam!
I have a nice litter of Drover Abilene Puppies with still 3 puppies available.
