Piney Grove was founded on August 13, 1871…
My Grandpa use to tell me about the Big Meetings he attended as a boy.
Tomorrow will be full of memories of precious loved ones now gone on…
This evening I have had tears at every turn in the kitchen. I am so very blessed. I have so much .. I was greatly loved by my Grandparents…They took care of me (Momma and Daddy worked) I was on the farm during the day and at home with my parents at night.
Every time I hit the side of the pot I was cooking in with my spoon…I could hear my Grandma doing this…Funny I never noticed it till she was gone…I fixed Grandma’s Green Beans with corn (I could hear her telling me the secret that was given to her by my Great Grandma Essie Delk), as I fixed Grandma’s Carmel Cake I could see Grandpa sneaking a taste of the caramel icing that was his favorite, ( I cooked the cake in my square pan and put the cake on Momma’s Square cake plate) 🙂 Deviled eggs are on cousin Beverly’s egg plate, and I fixed Grandma’s Chicken Pie….(That crust is still a mystery) But I will get it right one day!
I fixed flowers for the church … in memory of my parents…Alton J. and Betty Sue Delk. another tradition Grandma taught me as a girl and I have continued.
All my Great Aunts and grandparents will be in the sanctuary tomorrow…(Only I will see them) and remember them…along with many of the Saints I knew growing up…Grandpa and his handkerchief over on the left side of the church as he stood and spoke he would wipe a gentle precious tear of remembrance…
Tomorrow will be a special day…One hundred forty four years… Celebrating The Piney Grove Big Meeting! I never knew what Grandpa meant …But I understand now…Till we meet again…
