As you all can guess…I have been busy with puppies and the NC ES Gathering and Puppies!!!
Drover is ready for all this to be done and for us to get down to some serious work…
Speaking of Drover what a good dog he is! Sometimes I fear I love him too much! What a sweet spirit he has…And he is my best ” Little Buddy” …
We demonstrated to some folks his working abilities and style with the sheep yesterday. They had never seen a working sheep dog in person. I have to admit we showed off a bit;-) What an easy nice dog Drover is… And never excited about too much…(Girl dogs…. yes)
I had Drover fetch the sheep from the field to the new Fan shaped working pen. Then Drover and I sorted the sheep like we should! Quietly efficiently and stress free. Then we let the sheep out except for the ram and a couple of his ladies. The large flock was then taken thru the outside gate (by Drover) and up and thru the front yard and back to the field and round about. So the visitors could see how he works with the sheep.
I have to say that when I started years ago I was impressed by a friend’s Border Collie that worked and put sheep anywhere they were needed without a fuss and no fences. At the time THAT was my dream! Now I dream of shedding and and Maltese crosses! I did not know they existed! And the thing is …We will be able to do BOTH! with some training!
Drover and I have learned so much together and Drover was 6 years old last week! I have a birthday tomorrow! the 31st. (yes I am a spook) 🙂 This month I became an AHBA Judge! Now that is amazing to me! But for Drover and our team work! It would not have been possible!
Still so much to learn…But I have the finest dog to learn with and “We are a Team” …My Little Buddy and I ! … And that is the key ! We are a team…
