After a very rough night with a not so kind or friendly Kidney Stone(s) I slept most of the beautiful cool day away on the sofa in the living room. After a hateful dream I woke feeling like I was totally off in every way. Finally by the time the sun was sinking low I was feeling like I could and should check water for the sheep and chickens.
This evening was UM Women’s Society at the fellowship hall. We were low in numbers only 6 of us. We had a wonderful talk that was supported with scripture. An amazing meal…that included a fruit cheese ball.Delicious! as was all the food…
We raised enough money from our Brunch.. for 2 children in our church to go to Summer Camp at Mt Shepherd UM Summer Camp! One is going to Horse Camp the other to a day camp for boys…What fun they will have! Sigh …it feels so go to be able to send these children to camp.
Right now there is a summer thunderstorm that is bringing Maple Grove Farm and all of Jackson Creek much needed rain!
I passed the not so friendly kidney stone a few hours ago (I think!) YES!
So as I drove up to the church for the meeting tonight…I thought about how beautiful Jackson Creek is. The fields have been mowed for hay. The mountains are green, majestic and mysterious and these old mountains and I have a deep and abiding friendship. We know each other I know them like the back of my hand, they give me their strength and courage and peace.
After we had our program at the meeting and was enjoying the wonderful food…I was thinking of my first UM Women’s Society meeting I remember.
It was at The Old Morgan home place. Outside in the hot afternoon with hand fans to keep the ladies cool… besides the breeze. We sat in metal chairs and there were likely 20 + women in attendance. Most of which have all gone on …I remember the heat, playing in the dirt under the chairs, and the big oak trees in the yard…that hinted of another home that once stood in this beautiful place…of a time that was simpler and slower…easier to live in…I spoke of some of this to the ladies as we ate.
This started the ladies talking about their youth growing up in this beautiful place…
How they lived before electricity! of butter milk kept in a ground cellar to keep it cool. of pea and bean patches…corn, milking cows…hard work…walking to school, one pair of shoes for school and one for Sundays. one school dress and one Sunday dress… How there were 9 children in one family 5 in another and 11 in another…how they all ways made it, were never hungry…grew their food and Mothers made their clothes. Of playing with siblings…
Butter, Molasses, good home cooking…Juanita told how she bought some butter recently at the store and told her older sister about it. Her sister allowed that “That butter most likely had never seen a cow” ! Laughing out loud! I am still smiling!
The thing that was said over and over …Is how these ladies never lacked for a thing. They were fed well, worked hard, learned all that they could and were privileged to go to school. How much they were loved. How listening to the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday night on a battery operated radio was a big deal and how they loved it…Loved school, and their church…Loved their families and talked of their Mothers and Daddys and loved ones with a special tone that made me know they still missed them and look forward to the day they see them once again…
Oh this was a very special Country Pleasure. A spiritual one. That I can do no justice with my poor words.
