I was a young girl starting out on a career as a General Contractor…
I had purchased a lot in Dixieland Acres (Asheboro)…Drew up a house plan…Hired carpenters…and Daddy cleaned the lot off and dug the footings, and I did very well with the house and built many homes through the years…
The first carpenters I hired were from the Flint Hill area and one was named Joel Walker…I remember him as a short happy man with several children he was raising on his own…He was an excellent carpenter and my Grandpa was his friend and had recommended him to me.
Several years passed and Joel married a local lady and they lived about three miles from us…
Fast forward to 2016…Sadly Joel passed away in February of this year.
Joel was a farmer as well as a carpenter. He had a real good Australian Shepherd female that he had bred and a litter of 5 puppies arrived in November 2015. Joel was sick by then but was very pleased with his puppies. One in particular stood out…It was a tri colored male with one blue eye and a blaze. This pup called Rascal laid in Joel’s lap while he was so sick and provided comfort and I am sure Joel had big dreams for this pup.
Today I met that pup. Now about 9 months old. It is a nice puppy. I also met the red Merle male his grandson likes.
We have started a training program for both pups.
I will post about our success with these two nice pups from time to time. There is a female pup as well and I will be helping Mary and her family find good homes for these special pups…
I find it interesting the paths that God takes us in life.
You see Mary would never had known about my training dogs except the neighbors cows escaped a few months ago and BOO and I got the cows up for the neighbor. Who in turn told her about my dogs and how well they worked. Seems Mary and my neighbor’s Mother were best of friends! I would have never know Joel except my sweet Grandpa told me about him when I started building homes in 1977… Now tell me this “just happened” ! 🙂
