My Grandma was number 12 of 13 children born to Bennie and Elizabeth Nance in the Jackson Creek Community.
My Grandma loved her husband Astor J. Delk, her family, God and her church and community was all ways a good neighbor…and her love is still felt though she has gone on to heaven…
Grandma was a good cook (as we say round here) 🙂 Her chicken pie still has no equal and is remembered at every church function and family gathering.
My Grandma was a wonderful person. A great quilter. I have Nine of her beautiful quilts she made for me. I have worn out 2 of the tacked quilts she made me.I sleep under or with one of the quilts every night!
The current quilt is a tacked (my personal favorite) made out of my Prom dresses and backed with flannel, then tacked. It is beginning to look rough. A bit ragged, and thin, and a few years ago I had it rebound. Grandma would be ashamed of it if she could see it. But it is clean! The problem is I only have one more tacked quilt that she made and I want the quilts to last 😉
There is a comfort to sleeping under a 42 year old quilt made by my Grandma for me. That feeling is indescribable. But full of love for sure.
I think I am ready to drift off to sleep now under my quilt…The sheep bells softly in the distance are calling for a peaceful good night’s sleep and rest.
