Les had a tee time at Maple Chase Country Club in Winston Salem Monday morning at 9:00 AM… the plan was I ride along and meet Lawana at the golf course about 5 miles from her home. It was 8 AM when we arrived! Les exclaimed at how early we were… Really !
One of the golfers was attempting to install a shoe standing up…Well he fell flat on his face (unhurt) but clearly embarrassed course I had to make it better! Right?!? So I said it was a bit early to be drinking! He assured me he had THAT in his cup! LOL!
As I waited for Lawana at our appointed time… I took in the beauty of the day… the birds were all so happy. And why not? what a lovely place to live!
Lawana and I started on our Journey! it was way to early to be junking and Lawana wanting to not disappoint took me to Priddy’s General Store in Stokes County! We spent a very pleasant morning chatting with the owners and to the folk that visited the lovely old store.
I purchased the most wonderful double dipped chocolate covered peanuts! Out of this world delicious! At some point my Cheerwine or as Marianne calls it “Joy Wine” was lacking in assisting my tummy’s job to handle so much wonderful chocolate! So I asked Lawana to share a half bologna sandwich! She was happy to do so. My half had Dukes Mayo and mustard Lawana’s just Mayo. Well I am no bologna lover but that was quite good and hit the spot but I was way to full!
We sat on the porch of the Priddy store established in 1888! What a wonderful time we enjoyed! There were old rockers , some without the rocker part, benches and chairs. Beautiful flowers and grass wet with the Good Lord’s Dew!
Walking into the store was a step back into time. Shoe laces, brick a brack, old bottles, jeans and overalls, to name some of the things for sale.
Of course I purchased a book about Stokes County, a bottle of local Honey, Pear and Strawberry preserves the wonderful double dipped chocolate covered peanuts, an American Flag, and “Joy Wine”!!!
What a wonderful visit back in time for me!
We then drove to Hanging Rock State park and to Saurtown Mountains after a wonderful visit and beautiful scenery! We ended our round at Dairo for the most delicious hot dogs and fries! Stuffed we headed home!
