Walk About…

The frogs were singing “Oh Spring!” …The breeze said “Spring”!  The sun was not real bright…but my sun glasses said SUNSHINE!!!Spring!  The temps were in the 60’s and it felt warm…The air smelled so clean and everything felt free…Spring!

Under foot the ground squished with our every step…Low land and high alike squish, squish, squish! Mud everywhere…But still SPRING!!!

Mary Sue and Trixie had come for a herding lesson. I had my sheep in the far pasture.

We walked across the pond dam  there was this silence : no bells, and no ewes calling for their lambs and lambs answering. It was quiet and there were no sheep in sight.  I thought oh no…and then thought they were just as far away as they could be and down under a hill. Turns out I was correct…only they had gone ” Walk About” to the neighbors  property. Far far away and under a hill…just not in the direction we were going !

We had to track the sheep…Ms Trixie was a star! She was nose to the ground and excitedly looking for the sheep. (Ms Trixie is a Cardigan Corgi) She helped track the sheep and we were deep in the neighbors woods following the very well used path when my phone rang. Les said “Your sheep are out! ”  Yes I know we are tracking them…”They are at the old barn!”   Okay!  We were in sight and saw them about the same time I hung up the phone.

The footing became deep mud with suction to boots…

I had KAT stay in a down and had Trixie  and Mary Sue hold and move the upper flank.

Then KAT was put to good use by sending her away and come bye. Together we all  brought the ewes and lambs home with out one problem!

I sure was pleased with May Sue and Trixie…and of course KAT did good too! She likes this work!  So do I!
