We had an awesome Jim Hartnagle Clinic October 4 thru 6 ! I learned so many tools to assist me on my journey. Jim is an amazing clinician.
We had an wonderful group at the clinic. Dogs, Sheep, People all learned and got along amazingly well.
Folk were here from Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.
Australian Cattle Dogs, Border Collies, Aussies, English Shepherds, a Buhund, a nice rescue dog, and Cardigan Corgis were all well represented. Each dog was a fine example of each breed. The handlers excellent !
Jim started dogs and worked with advanced dogs with equal ease and expertise.
The weather was great, cool and dry. The facility fine with plenty room and set ups to work all levels in. We had cattle and sheep to work.
New friendships were established and old ones renewed!
What I came away with…
This is my simple plan:
- Work my dogs daily.
- Have a written plan
- Keep a journal of my work.
- Only have one dog out when I am working.
- NO EXCUSES!!! NONE!!!
Simple Right? Common Sense Right?
I worked my dogs last week without a plan .
Last Monday (10-7-19) we started with what I learned in the clinic. It was not too rough… I felt we needed a bit of one on one practice so I could better plan.
Monday (10-14-19) KAT and Journey started on my lesson plan for the next 7 days. My lesson plan will change as we learn and grow, and be reevaluated daily and changed as needed every 7 days.
KAT is working on her Stop mainly. And Flanks along with Stand .
Journey is working on his flanks in different areas of the field and pens.
10 to 15 minutes each daily
I am working on myself as well. quiet, correct, watching the sheep, not getting excited.
This is good for the dogs and myself personally!
And ONE DAY… I hope to know my Left from my Right! 🙂
