Rainy Day Friends…

The whole world smelled fresh and new…washed clean with the earth’s own special detergent…

As KAT and I walked out into the softly falling rain the sound of rain on leaves and the fast growing grass was music to my ears.

It was such a fine evening that I walked down with KAT to the pens gathered and moved sheep. I had 3 lambs we left behind this morning by accident. As well as a nurse maid ewe. (with no milk of course)  We have had the lambs weaned for 4 weeks now. But it will take at least that many more weeks to finish the weaning process.

As KAT and I walked along in the tall grass full of clover my tall water proof boots made squishing sounds on the ground saturated with rain. At one place I had to cross the terrace and tested  my boot’s ability to keep water out. Actually I was more concerned with water going over the top of my boots…yes it was that deep! My feet stayed toasty and dry.

My what a beautiful evening my rainy day girl… KAT and I shared . The soft greys of the sky, the rain drops falling on the pond making sounds and little ripples in the water…the view toward Grandma’s house…peaceful…misty…greys.

We took our time and gathered the ewes in the big field and moved them where they could not visit with their lambs…when all the gates were set…my rainy day girl and I were off to find the lambs across the dam in the far field.

More squishing, rain hitting my face and a bit of sting with it…KAT happily at my side…she does not ever care what the condition is as long as she is with me…we started across the dam and that blasted beaver scared me! and had the nerve to sashay away in the water with a tail flip at us!!!

We walked on in the quietness of the evening  me with my thoughts and wonders of the quiet beauty and what a fine friend I have in KAT Ballou…

As we opened the gate to the far field the sheep heard us above their quiet munching of the soft fresh green grass, and quietly called out to us…I sent KAT on an “AWAY” and I noticed just how wet she was…the sheep came quietly and shaking the water out of their heavy coats…we crossed the dam and quickly they were in the fold for the night. KAT held the gate and when I finally arrived I shut it…All is well…and ready for the rest of the rain we are supposed to have. Currently we have had 3 and 7/10s inches…

All the time KAT and I were out I kept hearing this beautiful song by Gordon Lightfoot. “Rainy Day People”
