Sundays for me as long as I can remember meant: church at Piney Grove UMC, (preaching and Sunday school) , dinner (that is what we called lunch) at Grandma’s, sitting in the yard, talking and listening to stories Grandpa told us and lots of cousins and uncles and aunts all there… the cousins playing in the barn , creek, or branch, dogs lots of dogs! Horses or a good pony.
I can see my Grandma with flour on the table and on her apron too, as she made her most wonderful chicken pie, cakes, pies, green beans, creamed potatoes and Cole slaw (we called it slaw) …oh and biscuits! Homemade butter, homemade jelly usually made with lots of chiggers that lasted for a very long time!
It was normally a day long event…(every Sunday)
Well the only thing left to me of that golden loved era of my life is the day Sunday…
Les and I decided to attend Piney Grove Sunday to visit and hear their preacher Brad…He can really preach and preaches scripture not some story from a book…Wow! He sounded like the preachers of old I remember…It was so good to see people I knew as a child…I loved it!
We are excited to go back..and maybe a few memories will fill that ” Empty Sunday Feeling”.
