Yesterday Les and I worked on our flock…
Sheep require feet trimming, daily checking in general, vaccination against over eating and tetanus, as well as a check on parasites to name a few things…Then there is the petting:)
We went looked the flock over real good…as I was making decisions about which lambs to keep and which ones to sell. I have purchased some ear tags…turns out the wrong size! So no ear tagging! Got to go back and purchase the correct ear tags!
But I had purchased some paint for flock marking…And we graded the lambs and the ewes.
Florescent Green means they are for sale! Florescent pink and green maybe…and Florescent pink NOT for sale! I have 10 very nice lambs mostly black and white for sale. And 4 nice ewes!
On the 18 th the signs will be right and I will wean all the lambs!
Les helped me and was GREAT! We had a good time , worked hard and trimmed 6 ewes feet. That leaves 15 to go! Well some of the ewes may not need any work!
Drover was the most EXCELLENT assistant! He did it all correctly! He gathered the flock , held them at the gate, pinned the flock then separated the ewes with their lambs. YES he was Shedding! 🙂 Shedding is a method of separating a few sheep out of a flock…Shepherds do this out in the open fields and do not use any thing to pen the sheep inside of…
After all this work we got ready for Friday and our trip down to Snow Hill to see Marlene and Ms Dixie! I was really looking forward to this trip! I LOVE to go down and visit! They have an Abilene Drover puppy! (Now 3) named Tucker! Everyone is all ways happy to see each other…
We had a good visit and I came home with 4 dozen beautiful farm fresh eggs! A 8 packs of Pecans (My favorite) ! Yum! and A very nice young ram named Abraham! Also 7 beautiful Call Ducks!
I am set now !
Les and I had a good trip and when we went to unload Abraham in his pen…Les had backed up into the gate with the pick up. There was a low palace for Abraham to jump off the back of the truck…But he said NO WAY! Now never mind all my girls were calling him! Just across the pen…He said no way!
Les suggested I have Drover jump up in the pen with him and sure enough he did! did and AWAY and out jumped Mr Abraham! WHAT A DOG!!!!
Since the Larry Painter Clinic in February…Drover is doing so wonderful! He gathers the stock well, moves the flock where I want them every time! He is awesome in the pen work and at the gates …We are going to start work on driving again now that the weather is better!
Bout this weather! IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!!! Dogwoods blooming and the Red Buds! Yellow Bells too! Just beautiful!
