My Sweet Abilene…

The weather yesterday was 73 degrees! Today it was in the 30’s with a cold heavy rain that fell most of the day.. and wind that was round 10 miles an hour…This is the kind of weather that will kill lambs! The lambs can stand the cold by itself,  the wet rain alone,  or just wind by itself…but this kind of combination weather, after a nice warm day will  take a toll on lambs lives!

I could tell there were a couple of lambs in trouble this morning and I took them to the shelter. They seemed okay except for one…So I took it into the basement, and had Abilene come in to mother it up and get it warm.

I put Abilene and the lamb in the large dog crate, and covered the lamb (after drying it) in a good blanket. About 3 hours latter after Abilene had mothered it and it was warm I gave it some canned milk with sugar added. The lamb drank most of a  can over the next 2 hours…and perked up!

Abilene was very attentive of the lamb and cared for it as if it were a new born puppy…(I left her alone with it) knowing she would not harm it…

Tonight the lamb is back with its Mother in the barn…I hope it will be fine. (most likely the lamb wonders why Ewes are not as nice as English Shepherds are as Mothers!)

The other lamb that I thought was okay I found dead at dark.

Wish I had took it in to the basement with Abilene too!

Here are some photos from my I phone.
