Good Friends…The kind you meet and know you like them right away!
I met Lawana and Stacey Manning back in April last year at the Jeannie Joy Hartnagle Taylor Herding Clinic. I had invited them down to meet my “Traditional Working” English Shepherds. The clinic was a perfect time for this. They could watch all the breeds working sheep and see if they were interested in the English Shepherd breed.
Turns out they were interested! Soon they were on my Drover BOO puppy waiting list! No breeding had happened at that time but April was the month I expected BOO to come into season …We were not disappointed! In June BOO delivered 8 beautiful healthy English Shepherd puppies! 4 boys and 4 girls!
Lawana and Stacey came down often to visit the puppies and I watched them as they watched the puppies! I knew which ever pup was lucky enough to go home with the Mannings would be set for an exciting wonderful life with these good people …
I could see how Stacey studied each pup and was thoughtful. Lawana thought too, but like me was enthralled with each puppy she picked up and held. All the time Stacey watched. He held them, too.
After much thought and consideration they decided on a girl puppy. She was sable and white like BOO. She had a white streak on her head and back about her ears she had a round spot inside the white that was sable. An old wise breeder told me that was a sign of a very smart puppy! When they picked the pup Stacey mentioned that as well ! Hum!
They took their puppy home at eight weeks (much to my relief) 8 super smart puppies are work! And their girl was the ring leader of trouble!
What a fine dog she is becoming at eight months of age! She goes everywhere with Lawana and Stacey. She goes to the milking parlor where she helps out with the cows. She goes to cow sales , feed stores, helps with the planting, and harvesting by keeping a close check on who ever she is with in the tractor cab or up front in the truck hauling stock…What a fine life she has.
Currently we are working on her getting around the calves. and on her walk up and down.
It is a pleasure to help with Cheyenne and to watch and be a part of her progress!
