My sweet Aunt Peggy and I were talking today…she is giving me some of her treasures…
As we looked thru some 60 plus years of memories of her life and talked about each item (where it came, who gave it or where she had found it ) I was struck by the fact that life is short no matter how long one lives. What is important is how we live our lives and give of ourselves.
As we chatted I realized how weak, and fragile my Aunt Peggy has become and so very quickly… I was surprised.
The Aunt I remember was (still is) beautiful inside and out. Blond, with beautiful eyes, petite, sweet, and above all kind and caring for all. Quiet. And the best pickle maker in the world! She has all ways been generous making all kinds of goodies for her family and friends and then giving graciously and without a thought to the cost.
Oh the fruitcake cookies, sweet pickles, candies, jellies, breads and other numerous special items we have enjoyed thru the years! She introduced me to Panatoni! and even made homemade for me.
Then all the special knitted items from socks to scrubbies and kitchen items, the lovely scarves, mittens, hats, sweaters, you name it!
She went to Peru with Grand Mother Rogers , Cathy, and I. We remembered the general and the backseat of his special car. LOL! How I at 12 made him move over in the front seat so we could all get inside his car!
Peggy and I went to Berryville to a stock dog herding trial one Thanksgiving and how it snowed! What a fun time we had. I locked the keys in the car just days after dropping on star! LOL! How mad the motel guests were when at 6 AM my car security went off while I looked for my keys! And the big burly nice but firm with directions yelled back at the more ugly guests until they thought better of fussing LOL!
All of theses small glimpses into a wonderful wife of 55 years and a wonderful Mother and Aunt ! What a fine person she is! When the day comes she will be missed…
