Road Trip With Friends!!!
Sylvia and Mike Snell our good friends and Rosie! are visiting us from Florida.
The day dawned perfect! Carolina Blue skies and sunshine…
Tuesday morning we loaded up the Chevy and headed for the North Carolina Foothills…sort of…
Our first stop was in Lexington for a biscuit then on to Stacey and Lawana Manning’s Buffalo Creek Dairy for a visit with Happy North Carolina Cows …
and Cheyenne’s 5 week old puppies! My how they are all growing so big and pretty and yes they all have homes when the time comes… (Movie of puppies) IMG_0625
After our visit we stopped in at the Daily Basket a local Germanton business selling local grown and local made foods. I had a Nehi Grape Soda and some of the best carmel corn with peanuts! They have a wonderful assortment of fall fruits and veggies, plants and meats!
Then on to Priddy’s Store est 1888 run by the 3rd generation and still much like it was back in the day!
We sat on the front porch having our lunch of bologna sandwiches loaded with home grown tomato, hoop cheese, Dukes mayo, and onions complete with a Nehi Grape Soda! and I daydreamed of how it must have been years ago with the dirt roads crossing and buggies and horses going by…we were treated to a tractor with a radio and the driver stopping for lunch…as we had! All sorts of local traffic and a car loaded with ladies… I think Jane the proprietor must know everyone! It is the kinda place that truly takes you back into time wait and listen soon you will hear “Well my goodness! it is so good to see you! How have you been Sarah and how is your back doing today?” It is an amazing place and my very favorite place to have lunch!
We had a great time! Purchased books about local places, and old stores across the area (Yates Store in Jackson Creek was in one) and picked up things like vanilla flavoring, double dipped chocolate covered peanuts, salt and pepper setters and of course a wonderful hooded sweatshirt! Jane carries many hard to find items and a fine line of boots, soaps, candles, local pottery and of course iron skillets.
Thank you Jane! Your truly unique store, the rich family history, the information on the beautiful area you call home along with your wonderful sandwiches draw me back often… for more!
Then we were off to Danbury where we visited with dog people at the Dan River. There is a great town park there and I waded out in the cold shallow current. It was so much fun watching the folk throw sticks for their dogs to retrieve. One lady even took a dive into the cold water and swam! (I was impressed)
Then we explored Hanging Rock State Park a bit…and rode thru the countryside surrounding and north of King …as we wandered towards home!
