JUST THINKING HOW…

I have been in much thought lately about the weather, how on earth did our grandparents cope in cold and hot. for that matter?  Gardening…to eat or not…store bought loaf bread and biscuits…farm raised meat and eggs…oh and fresh cows milk…

I am sitting in our living room it’s after midnight and we have 13 inches of snow on the ground and in places left over ice from last week. The view out the window is breathtaking even with dark night time skies . We have a good truck with four wheel drive if we need it…my Great Grandpa Benny Nance had a horse and buggy!

I am told my Great Grandpa Frank Delk was an excellent Gardner, I’m good with flowers and gardening.

The time it takes us to feed and break ice and do the other farm chores in this weather is about 2 hard hours if nothing is wrong…today we had new lambs and it took 5 hours to do all the work…putting out hay and settling the lambs in…I remember my Grandpa Delk keeping a large kettle on the wood stove filled with water and he used that to unthaw the water spickets with so he could water his stock and dogs… and it took him all day.

I love to shop Marshalls. It is my favorite place, Use to be folk ordered from Sears or Montgomery Ward Catalogues…

Times and ways have changed some for the better for sure… others No I do not believe so.

Instead of thinking 🙂 Tomorrow  I believe I will go back and read my herding books!
