Weekend

Saturday I spent the day in the arena working with  the dogs and herding ducks and sheep! What FUN!!!! Connie and Sophie came….several other folk had planned to come but things came up. Next month we will have our second Herding Workshop on the 11th.

Sophie was a tired but very happy dog when she left . She went home to tell the other dogs just what they had missed and how she knew what to do ! She is 8 years old and she is a natural talent. Her herding instinct is amazing! She just “knows” what to do!

I have two arenas to herd in and I thought it would be easy enough to use Amarillo and drive the ducks from the large arena where the ducks live to the smaller arena. Two things were against my brilliant idea. Ducks and wide open space. We could get the ducks out the gate but then they realized that it was wide open and 10 ducks went 10 different ways back to the big arena! (Amarillo tried hard but those ducks were back to the arena) Then they got so they would not go out the gate no matter what!!! Hum… After several tries ( maybe an hour or better) we gave up ! Connie and I put up a temporary alley way and like magic the ducks strolled into the other arena! But without the alley they were not going out into the world! Guess I do not have to worry that they will escape!

We had the heaviest frost , it looked like snow! The leaves were just breath taking ! The sunshine late in the day is golden and the maple trees are bright gold and red! Just beautiful! The leaves are falling in the pond and early morning when the pond is still and reflective they look like splashes of gold floating on blue water!

Sunday Les and I rode horses and took 3 dogs with us: Montanna, Drover, and BOO. They had great fun! We rode over on the Swaney Place  on some trails we had not rode in a while.

Hi Kay! So sorry we were unable to attend the herding event this month. I have marked our calendar for Dec. 11th and can’t wait to see how Reina will do.
