Farm Work

We had a bit of rain last night and there were awful winds . So today I checked pasture fences. Sure enough I had to fix one section. Not a big deal but I sure hope that was not poison oak on the part that fell across the fence.

I took care of sheep and ducks. Drover and I put the ducks up. He does so good. Gentle, easy,  gathers and keeps them together. I went to Carol Greet’s web site and blog tonight and saw Drover’s baby photos! How cute he was! But now he is so handsome! I am going to have to get new photos up of all the dogs and horses! I have two distinct flocks of ducks. The young ducks and their mother 14 in all stay together and then the older ducks 10 in all flock together. If they intermingle they fuss at each other and if the older ducks come into the younger ducks pen they peck at the older ducks. It is hard to believe these ducks were born in September! They are larger than their mother !

I feed once a day in the evening. They know me and talk to to me. Sheep and ducks alike! My round pen has become my little barn yard! The sheep and ducks run together in this area and do not bother each other.

Amarillo and Dallas are on duty tonight! They are sleeping at the sheep pens. Two nights ago I saw a coyote on the dam! All my dogs have been barking at night and with good reason!

Les and I moved an old freezer down to the pens. I keep my feed inside this. It keeps it dry, safe and secure from mice!  Now I can just walk down to feed. I don’t have to drive the gator.

BOO and I went to Smith Farm and bought feed for all the farm animals today. BOO is learning to “stay with me” and “Come” when I say to. You think she should know this and she does! It’s just that puppies go through the stage of  “I can’t hear you!”  She is in it! So until I believe she gets it she is going to be stuck with me!  Maybe I should talk about the trials of raising two puppies at the same time soon!!

Well tomorrow I have to “Go To Town”.
